Welcome to
The Crooked Billet

We pride ourselves on being a true ‘Free-house’ offering all you would expect from a traditional British village pub

We (Wally and Julie) have owned this land-mark Hertfordshire Freehouse for over  24 years.

During our time we have successfully established The Crooked Billet as a friendly and traditional village pub; offering all the things you would expect from your ‘local’.

Wally is very proud of his recognition for a well kept cellar with a consistent entry in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for the past 25+ years; offering real ales from local breweries for example Tring’s Side-pocket-for-a-Toad as well as nationally renowned beers.

He is also very proud to host three successful darts teams in local leagues.

In recent years our kitchen team have gone from strength to strength offering tried and tested menu options; including homemade pies and Chef’s specials of the day and have helped to establish us a destination pub, particularly for many walking and cycling groups.

Re- Opening Time at The Crooked Billet
We we’re very happy to welcome back many familiar faces on Saturday 4th. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t kind to us but Sunday 5th saw the garden full again (whilst still observing social distancing obvs!!). That’s more like it!
We were very happy that the social distancing measures we had in place were very successful. The only review to arrangements was to reduce the number of seats in the patio area, by the exit, to reduce the risk of ‘enthusiastic’ customers
congregating near the door.
We will continue be use the queueing system, although in reality there haven’t been long queues at any time.
The FRONT DOOR (nearest the High Street)is the ‘IN’ to the bar and also to the toilets. The Car Park Entrance is the ‘OUT’ with NO EXCEPTIONS.
There are clear floor markings and guideline posters to help customers adhere to the measures.
We are not serving food at present but hope to restart very soon.
We have had to remove a large number of tables and chairs; which in such a small pub has left us with few seats for customers to comfortably, and safely, enjoy a meal.  As soon as we confident that we can start up food service again, we will.
Please free to call for an update and to leave your contact details.
We will not be taking Bookings* for tables at present but suggest you arrive early to secure a table. Once food service resumes then normal bookings system applies.
please let us know in advance should your need for a guaranteed seat be due to any physical limitations.
